Went to Shell house, to see about U.S. visa, after to Australia House. Got 2 letters, posted key of trunk to Bella, also parcel for Bill. Had lunch with Mrs Cantor & Jack S – came home at 1.30 to do some ironing. Mrs C came back about 4 – sat in my room, and did some sewing. Had my medicine made up again for the trip, everything fixed up now for trip. Had my hat blackened up for 2/6. Mrs C brought me up some brandy & bisc for supper at 10.30.

Had dinner, Mrs Cantor and I met Mrs Spriggins at Marble Arch. Went into Hyde Park & sat in the chairs to hear the Scottish Band play. Had tea at Lyons then took bus to St Paul’s Cathedral, to evening service at 6 .30 out at 8. Have plates for collection at door as you leave, got home early, went to bed early.

Changed dress at Evans for baby. Met Mrs Cantor at 10.15. Went to see Grace Moore in [blank]. Very good show. Had lunch at Lyons, came back about 4. Yarned in my bedroom.
[The baby would be a reference to Wep’s wife Jess and her pregnancy, which unfortunately she miscarried.]

Got 10 letters today, all the news good, also £1 from Bill. Packed my big suitcase to send to Sydney by Malgoi?, paid 13/6, then to Harley St for my visa 8/6 – bought dress for Jess, 10/6, had my hair curled at the edges – 25/ – ready for the trip. Mrs Cantor and I went for a walk after dinner. Bought babies (sic) dress for Jess, 15/6.
[Suspect Malgoi is the name of a ship but can not find any reference to it in Trove, etc in shipping news.]

Left Lucerne 10’o’clock for Paris. Had a nice packed luncheon on train, changed at Bale [Basel] for Paris train, packed. Arrived at Paris at 7 – no one to meet me. Took taxi to Bohy Lafayette Hotel, got a lovely double room with private W.C. & shower but too noisy, in front of hotel. Had hot wash and went to bed.
[The Bohy Lafayette was at Square Montholon. It is no longer a hotel but the building still exists. The address is 26 Rue Montholon and is now the home of AG2R La Mondiale.]

Got up at 9, raining, the Bells roaring out. Sat in Lounge and talked, then wrote letters until lunch – went for a walk, raining & cold, so did not go far – unlucky, to strike such miserable weather, as no one goes for the long tours. To do Pilatus tomorrow, weather permitting
