Thirza Pidgeon’s 1937 World Tour – 20 April: Lunch with Lady Lowther and Lady Churchill

Very cold and wet, absolutely rotten weather. Went to Lady Lowther in Hill St to lunch, met Lady Churchhill. Both lovely, made Mrs David & self very welcome. Lovely lunch, cocktails & cigarettes. Promised to go to Lady Churchill’s to see her children. Lots of invitations coming in. Had a lovely time, very cold & wet, so took the bus back to 130 and stayed in for the night.

Sunday, 18 April 1937

Went with Mrs David to Petticoat Lane. Had a guide, 8 of us. Were all nearly frozen with the cold & rain. Took us also to the dog markets and hirdo? [hair do?] also. Got back to lunch then went to Albert Hotel to hear Richard Tauber. Good crowd, but still plenty of seats. Paid 3/6 in gallery.? Saw all the N.Z. [people]. Got back to tea, very tired. Mrs Robertson took me out to supper, shandy & sandwiches, took bus back at 11 –
