Thirza Pidgeon’s 1937 World Tour – 8 Oct: Banff, AB to Radium Hot Springs, BC – 144 miles

Friday, 8 October 1937

Left Banff – went to the beautiful Lake Louise, nestled in the heart of the Canadian Rockies with its significant chateau from which radiate numerous motor & pony trails, the place being closed now until about June [Banff Springs Hotel]]. Had lunch, and then started for the Hot Springs. Did 144 miles, all through the Rockies. High mountains covered in snow on either side of us all the way. Wonderful trees, and poor roads all the way. Lovely scenery, very big enjoyed it very much. Got to Radium about 5.30. Got a very nice cottage of 2 rooms, big stove, plenty of wood. Will spend a good night writing to Sydney tonight.

Thirza Pidgeon’s 1937 World Tour – 7 October: Sightseeing around Banff, Alberta, Canada

Banff- where all the winter sports are held – Bow falls

Thursday, 7 October 1937

Still in Banff. Got car this morning, went up the mountains, lovely scenery. Stopped at the Banff Springs Hotel, but is closed for the season. Lovely hotel, in a grand setting. Went around the golf links. Saw most of the scenery around Banff. Back to lunch, more grills which is quite a treat to us. 6 dollars to have the car fixed up. Went to the pictures, Broadway Melody of 1938, paid 40 cents, 2 hours starting at 7.30 until 9.30. Nice cold night.

Thirza Pidgeon’s 1937 World Tour – 4 October: Medicine Hat to Calgary, AB – 195 miles

Monday, 4 October 1937

Left Medicine Hat, this morning, worst drive I have ever had, over fear full roads, greasy, heavy and slushy – shocking state, did not get to Calgary until 8.30  – where we had tea in an auto camp – all pretty tired, The car is just covered in mud. Snow everywhere about 204 miles out from Calgary. Pretty big town.
