Thirza Pidgeon’s 1937 World Tour – 24 August: Lucerne to Paris

Tuesday, 24 August, 1937

Left Lucerne 10’o’clock for Paris. Had a nice packed luncheon on train, changed at Bale [Basel] for Paris train, packed. Arrived at Paris at 7 – no one to meet me. Took taxi to Bohy Lafayette Hotel, got a lovely double room with private W.C. & shower but too noisy, in front of hotel. Had hot wash and went to bed.

[The Bohy Lafayette was at Square Montholon. It is no longer a hotel but the building still exists. The address is 26 Rue Montholon and is now the home of AG2R La Mondiale.]

Went to meet Spriggins, Australia House. Met Mr & Mrs Taylor – big storm they drove me home, came and had afternoon tea in my room – I finished packing for France in the morning.

Thirza Pidgeon’s 1937 World Tour – 22 July: A consultation with Dr Whitsett

Thursday, 22 July 1937

Called in Dr Whitsett this morning, thinks I am very run down, and bad relaxed throat, so called again about 4 in the afternoon, and took my blood pressure, much too high. Ordered me to rest for a fortnight and I have to see him again next Thursday 27^th. Put me on a diet. Mr & Mrs H and E are off to France tomorrow.

Thirza Pidgeon’s 1937 World Tour – 20 July: Booked trip to France and Switzerland then went to Hampton Court Palace

Tuesday, 20 July 1937

Booked my trip for France and Switzerland, had lunch. Mrs E and I went to Hampton Court, and went all through the Palace, miles of walking. Gardens were lovely, hundreds there. Had tea and had the deers putting their heads in the window, was a lovely day, plenty of sunshine. Could not see all the gardens – got too tired. Home late for dinner.
