Had dinner, Mrs Cantor and I met Mrs Spriggins at Marble Arch. Went into Hyde Park & sat in the chairs to hear the Scottish Band play. Had tea at Lyons then took bus to St Paul’s Cathedral, to evening service at 6 .30 out at 8. Have plates for collection at door as you leave, got home early, went to bed early.

Changed dress at Evans for baby. Met Mrs Cantor at 10.15. Went to see Grace Moore in [blank]. Very good show. Had lunch at Lyons, came back about 4. Yarned in my bedroom.
[The baby would be a reference to Wep’s wife Jess and her pregnancy, which unfortunately she miscarried.]
Monday, 2 August 1937
Mrs Robinson & I had lunch in my room, then left for Hampstead Heath. Got there about 12.30. Saw all that was to be seen, got back at 5, had an early tea, then took boat from Westminster Bridge for Greenwich, packed, down the River Thames. Got back at 9.30 then we went to Lyons Corner House, the Strand, for supper. Molly, Dorothy, Mrs R and myself.

Went to morning service to Christ Church, Woban [Woburn] Square WC1 with Mrs Robinson. Stayed to communion service, back to dinner, rested until 4, then made tea, and went to St James Park. Back again by bus at 6. Molly & Mrs Robinson, came into my room, and I supplied the tea and cakes from Lyons – had an early night.

Wednesday, 23 June 1937
Another nice day, went to meet Mrs Collins & her daughter. Took them to lunch at Lyon’s Brasserie, then Miss Collins took us to see Balalaika. Best play in London. She got a pass & took us in the best seats. Had afternoon tea in the theatre. Came back to dinner, been busy packing up, as I am leaving for Scotland in the morning. Catching coach at 8.30, first night at Chester – should arrive at Edinburgh on Friday night, feeling very tired.

Went to Caledonian Markets with Miss Slattery & Mrs E, an enormous place, a lot of rubbish, great quantity of silver there. Fruit is cheap. Bought silver coffee pot for 2/6 also apples & tomatoes. Had lunch at Lyons – got back to the hotel feeling very tired. Had a rest, then made a cup of tea. Mrs E & I took bus to Shepherds Bush. Bought pair of shoes for 7/6. Back again to dinner, then to the Lyceum Theatre. Saw Richard Tauber & Evelyn Laye in Paganini. Great storm as we got out. Had to wait ¾ hr before we got a taxi. Had tea & then to bed.

Mrs E & I called at Australia House for letters, then to Army & Navy Store, looking for a hat for Garden Party. Went into lots of shops, & only 2 hats to go on my head among all the shops. Bought one for 32/ -. Had lunch at Lyons, then went to see Camille at Marble Arch. Good show came back in the rain to dinner. Bought wool and started knitting.

Nice day, went to Jaques to buy frock for R. G. Party. Paid £8.8.0 then met Mabel & Phil at 11. Took Mabel to lunch at Soho, then came back to Jaques, where Mabel bought a dress for 6 ½ guineas. Had tea at Lyon’s then back to Oxford St. Mabel bought a hat. I left her at 5. Went to Hudsons to collect the rest of my luggage. Took taxi back to Hotel. 3/ – cost 2/ – to Porter. Had a nice quiet night, to bed early. Mrs Everett went to tattoo.

Went to Australia House, got my card for Royal Garden Party – also ticket for Changing of Colour, free one. Went with Mrs E to Strand Palace Hotel to see Mrs Webb. Had lunch at Lyons. Then out to Cadby Hall to go over Lyons big factory. Largest thing of its kind in the world. 20 miles of swiss rolls made every day, 6,000 employees. Had afternoon tea, came back to dinner. Mrs Webb came down at night and we had a game of bridge.

Fine morning, took bus to Petticoat Lane, 5 of us. Had a good walk around, very funny, cheeky lots of Jews. Came back to dinner, then went with Mrs Everett to visit some of her N.Z. friends in Maida Vale, 9 of us there. Had a very nice time, left about 10.30 then went into Lyons at Tottenham Court Rd and had some tea, at 12 at night. Walked home & had “a good night”.
